My work is deeply connected to the narratives, allegory, and illustrations of Fairy Tale and Folk literature. These stories have influenced my art and imagination since childhood, but it was Bruno Bettelheim’s Uses of Enchantment that opened my mind to the symbolism and psychological meaning hidden in these tales.
Inspired by the enchanting stories of Hans Christian Anderson, the Brothers Grimm, Francesca Lia Block, JRR Tolkien, Faerie Tale Theater and Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods, I love making paintings of the magical woods and women of faerie land where flowers glow, fairy dust glitters, and the trees are made of icing and jewels.
