Inspired by Fairytale literature and human sexuality, my Beauty and the Beast series focuses on the animal bride-groom motif – where one protagonist is turned into an animal by a witch and can only resume human form after the female protagonist learns to accept and love him/her for who they are. This motif addresses the anxiety felt by adolescents as they transition into adulthood and begin to understand their bodies as well as their partner's body, and it's about the growth as we come to understand what love and sex really mean. By intertwining the stories of Beauty and the Beast, the Frog Princess, and Snow White Rose Red, I want to bring the symbolism, sexuality, and strength of women from these tales to the surface.
